CLUB HISTORY

Chadwick’s Netball Club originated as Yew Tree Netball Club which started out in the 1970s. The Club later changed its name in 1995 when Jane Jackson, who was working for Chadwick Textiles, obtained sponsorship for the Club. Jane diversified her business acumen and set up her own nursery furniture company, Izziwotnot, and continued to sponsor the Club and support it in her role as the Chair until December 2014.

The Club is proud to be home to England Netball Honorary Life Member, Barbara Bishop, and two A level umpires officiating within the National Premier League Divisions 1-3, Farrah Jaura & Sarah Gallagher. Our longest standing members include: Sue Pollard (nee Hicklin); Lesley Taylor and Joanne Lewis.

Year on the year the Club strives to raise the club profile through its success in the Manchester Evening Netball League (MENL). Until 2014, two teams were part of divisions 1 & 2 for many years, and the Club recognised a need to find a way to offer opportunities to players who no longer wanted to continue playing with the intensity that comes with divisions 1 & 2.

To achieve this, the Club looked to diversify the choices of level which members could play at, and approached local clubs with squads in divisions 3 & 4 of the MENL who potentially had concerns about their longevity or wanted other opportunities to progress. Successfully in April 2014, Chadwicks Netball Club merged with Venus Netball Club which was started and run by Jo Chamberlain.
